New year, new city

December 31, 2007 | | Filed Under: Home is where the heart is, Personal stuff

Holy Shit. It’s crazy how you can be going on with your life and you think you’re the most boring person ever and you’re stuck and blah blah blah. And then one day, BOOM, everything’s different.

Let me take you through the last 5 days of my life:

Last Wednesday: My boyfriend has a phone interview (while driving to the movie theater, no less) for the job he pre-interviewed for before Christmas. He is unofficially offered the job right there. (Then we went to see Juno, which I LOVED and you should go see right now.)

Last Thursday: We discussed it and decided it was the best opportunity he’d gotten so far. The money is a bit lower then he wanted, but it’s still WAY higher than he’s making at his TWO current jobs. He unofficially accepts their offer.

Last Friday: We make an impromptu trip up to the city where his unofficial new office will be. (Sidebar: So, it sucks that we’re still going to be in Florida. But. But we are moving north and that is the direction I want to go in. The new city is REALLY close to Georgia, so it’s only barely in Florida. It is also quite handy that the new city is within close driving distance (about 2 hours) so that will make moving easier.)

We stop by his (unofficial) new office and he’s given the tour and meets some of the people he will be working with and he is officially offered the job and he officially accepts.

We drive around and tour some apartments that I’ve found online (Thank you rent.com). We get lost about 5 times. We come back home.

Last Saturday: We apply for the apartment we liked best.

Today: My boyfriend gave his two weeks notice at both his jobs.

AHHHH! So yeah, they want him to start IMMEDIATELY. And by that I mean, he’s actually going to start working from here until we can get moved (which they are paying for). Assuming we get approved for the apartment (not sure why we wouldn’t, knock on wood) our move-in date is the 15th of January. As in, two weeks away. But we aren’t CRAZY. There’s no way we could pull off a move in two weeks. But we want to have the new apartment earlier than we leave the current one, so that we don’t have to move all in one day. We’re going to take over 2 or 3 loads of non-essentials in our car before we do the big moving day with a u-haul thing. So we probably won’t be in the new apartment until late January. But still, that’s less than a month to make move to a new city. It’s going to be pretty crazy.

I just can’t believe how fast this happened. My boyfriend, sort-of jokingly, put up his resume online back in November and now two months later he’s got a new job and we’re moving. I’ll be soo happy to be out of this fucking town though. I think really, that it’s not so much Florida that I hate, but Orlando. This city just sucks. Hopefully, I’ll like the new city better. The cost of living is definitely less. The new apartment is about 800 times nicer for pretty much the same as we’re paying now. It’s on one of the main drags, so there is a grocery store, Target, a movie theater and a mall about 5 minutes away. We timed it and it’s only about 15 minutes away from his new office, too.

I have to start packing, well, pretty much now. I’m excited, but I also wish I could fast forward over all the moving stuff and just be in the new apartment. That’s going to suck. But it’s crazy to think that by this time next month we’ll be moved! This past year hasn’t been bad, but it hasn’t been good either. Just blah. I’m hoping that a new year and a new city will be just what we need.
