Is it over yet?

Seriously, it needs to be over. There is one word that describes the last week of my life. Miserable. Completely. Freaking. Miserable. And no, it’s still not over.

We’ve made a trip from Orlando to Jacksonville or vice versa almost every single day since last Sunday and we still have to go down there one last time today. We had planned to just go Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday, but things never work out like you plan.

We left both cat carriers at the new apartment on Tuesday, so we had to come back on Wednesday to pick one up so we could bring the last cat. Wednesday was supposed to be our big packing day, but because of that we didn’t really get to start packing until that night. At that point all order went out the window and we were just throwing shit into boxes.

Thursday was the official moving day and it got off to a great start when I woke up sick with my boyfriend’s cold and then we couldn’t find the place to pick up our u-haul. We finally found it and made our way home to start loading. Did I mention it was raining, too? It took us all day to load up the truck and even when it was completely full there was a bunch of crap left in the house. We were so exhausted from having to lug stuff up and down the stairs all day. My cold was worse because of the rain and to top it all off, at some point in the day I had twisted my ankle.

We just left the rest of the stuff there to be picked up on Saturday, which is the day we had planned to come back and clean the apartment out, and set out to our new apartment. I had the cat with me in the car and we followed my boyfriend driving the u-haul. I was completely dead by the time we got there. I couldn’t walk on my foot anymore and I had a fever. We got out the mattress and some other essentials, but that was pretty much it.

Friday was a little bit better. I woke up with my fever gone and my foot feeling better. It was still sore, but I could walk on it, at least. Unloading the truck didn’t seem to take nearly as long as loading it did. Though we still had to lug stuff up more stairs. It wasn’t raining anymore and had turned quite cool, which helped a bit. Though it didn’t really help my cold. We were supposed to have a our new sofa delivered that day, but when they tried to bring it in, it wouldn’t fit through our front hallway. So they had to take it back and now I have to wait for them to credit my account before I can order a new one. So we’re gonna be sitting on the floor for the next two weeks or so. Suck. But the cable guy came and hooked up our TV and internet, so at least something went right that day.

We had planned to go up early on Saturday because we needed to drop off our old cable box and we wanted to try to get the apartment clean before 5pm so the management could do the inspection. Well that plan went to hell when the maintenance guy knocked on our door to tell us he was fixing our dishwasher (which I didn’t know was broken). He tried to fix it for hours and then eventually gave up and had to unhook it and install a brand new one. By the time he was done it was 3pm. We left at that point, drove down the old apartment, picked up the cable box and tried to find one of the drop off locations. The place I had gotten directions for was closed by then, so we tried another one with later hours, but it was impossible to find. (The great google maps didn’t even know where the hell it was.) Then we tried to find a goodwill donation center because I had some things to drop off, but we wound up being unsuccessful at that as well. By the time we got back to the apartment for cleaning it was after 7pm.

We still had a bunch of shit to load in the car and had to clean the kitchen and bathrooms which were pretty filthy. It wound up taking forever and we still weren’t even close to finishing. My feet were killing me, my cold was worse. It just sucked all around. We were supposed to be out that day, but it just wasn’t going to happen. We left with a much stuff as we could carry and got back to the new apartment after 1am.

We returned once again yesterday to get the final load and it was still too much stuff for our car. In the end we wound up throwing away a lot of stuff. Since we had to wait to use the vacuum cleaner until everything was out there wasn’t any room for it, so we had to throw it away, too. It was on it last legs, but still, it sucked having to throw it away. We did get the apartment pretty clean, though. The carpet’s fucked all to hell, but it was in bad shape when we moved in 4 years ago, so they were going to have to replace that anyway.

We still have to go down there one last time today to turn in the cable box and pay our apartment fees. Hopefully they won’t charge us any cleaning fees. I busted my ass cleaning, so I’m going to be pissed if they do. My boyfriend was supposed to start work today, but that’s obviously not happening. It’s probably better, because I really haven’t had too much time to unpack with all the driving back and forth we’ve been doing so this gives us an extra day to get some stuff done. This trip up should be fairly quick (and by quick I mean only 5 hours).

I swear to god, if this isn’t the last time I have to make this trip, I will start shooting people. I’m so over it. I was hoping to be unpacked by now, but as it is, I’m not even close. At least we are done with the moving part, now I just have to get everything unpacked. The fun just never ends. :wall:

  1. Oh Emily..thats terrible! It sounds like such a mess. I hope you’re feeling better now. Just think, the hardest part is over with - now you can unpack and finally begin to enjoy living there. Hopefully tomorrow is a really good day for you. Hugs!
