Guilty Update

February 1, 2008 | | Filed Under: Home is where the heart is, Personal stuff, Pet stuff

I would like to get into a semi-regular posting schedule again because I was doing so well in November and December, but I’m SO behind with work right now that I feel horribly guilty doing anything that’s not work related. I know, logically, that I can’t work 24/7 and that it’s unhealthy and blah blah blah, but I’m just so overwhelmed right now. I don’t know what to do about it. It’s actually keeping me from getting stuff done because I’m at the point where I have so much to do that I don’t even know where or how to start. So I go to Google Reader or PopURLs and procrastinate instead. Which only makes me feel more guilty. It’s a vicious circle I can’t win.

Blah.

As far as my living situation things are going well, though. Brandon finally built his desk last week, so we’re completely unpacked. My new sofa (which thankfully fit through the front hall) was delivered on Tuesday so we have a place to sit and watch TV (not that I watch much TV because I feel too guilty about it).

Brandon got his last paycheck from his old job, which luckily is free money for us since he’s getting a paycheck from his new job today. So I finally bought a new vacuum cleaner and I even treated myself to a new bedspread (which I’ve been looking for forever so I couldn’t pass it up when I finally found one with the perfect colors).

I also ordered a pet door for my sliding glass door so I wouldn’t have to keep it open all the time. The cats are getting used to going through it, though there is still some hesitation. They don’t seem to fully understand that they should use their heads to push the plastic flap so they’ll try to swat at it with their paws until they finally just sort of jump for it. Otherwise they seem to be adjusting fine. My newest cat, Dewey (AKA Chester, I decided he was very Chester-y anymore), who’s never moved before was definitely freaked out for about a week and spent most of his time hiding under the bed, but now he’s adjusted and is back to his normal attention-whore self (he’s sleeping on my desk right now, in fact). Abby was a little stressed and I noticed she was losing some fur, but it looks to be growing back in now. I think she was happiest to finally have a sofa to sleep on again. She’s not a sleeping on the floor kind of cat, she’s definitely the queen around here. Also she and Dewey seem to have made peace. They sleep side by side sometimes now whereas before Abby stayed as far away as possible. Kitty still hates everyone (except Brandon), but she’s the veteran and has already moved 4 times, so this wasn’t a big deal to her.

The last thing I have to do to finally “complete” the apartment is repaint a bunch of furniture. Of course, I’m not going to let myself to do that until I have some of my work done, so who knows when that will happen. I want to repaint my coffee table, a bookcase and another small table since they don’t really look good with my new red sofa (the old one was yellow). Plus now that I got a new bedspread my dresser and side tables don’t match since they were painted them to match with the old bedspread. So I have lots of painting in my future if I ever get to it. I did go and get a bunch of paint samples so I can pick out colors at least.

Anyway, so far I’m liking the change of scenery and the new city. I am glad a work from home because the traffic is pretty bad. Now if I can just figure out how to balance work and the rest of my life without feeling like a horrible person we might be on to something.
