Dewey has graduated from roaches to lizards. Live lizards. Brandon put it outside. It should warn it’s friends to stay away from our porch.

How to dice an onion

How to dice an onion (video).  I really could have used this tutorial last week.  Plus tips on staying tear-free.!  I think my eyes are more sensative to onions that most people.  I cut myself last week because I could barely see my eyes were watering to badly.

Maybe Top Chef is finally rubbing off on me

in the late afternoon | Filed Under: Yummy Stuff

It took about 6 years, but last week I finally got tired of eating in restaurants.  I think mostly I was just tired of eating in the same 5 or 6 restaurants all the time.  We’re not the most adventurous of people and mostly eat at places where we know there are menu items we like, but even good food can become less appetizing if you eat it over and over again.  And honestly, just the thought of having to do the “Where to you want to eat?”  “I don’t know, where to you want to eat?” dance we go through every. single. day. was the biggest deterrent.

So I went through one of the many cookbooks I’ve bought (and rarely opened) and picked out two or three weeks worth of recipes that looked good and that seemed simple enough to make.  I’m not the best cook ever, but I can follow a recipe, my only requirement is that it not have a million ingredients (especially things I’ve never heard of) or take hours to make.  I just don’t have the time or patience to cook like that.

I’ve never spent so much at the grocery store in one go in my life.  $225!  On food.  I don’t even spend that much money in Target (and Target takes a good portion of my income).  The majority of that was meat, fruits, and vegetables, so that has helped me to follow through with making the meals or else waste a crap ton of money.  So far I’ve done pretty good.  I made dinner for 4 nights straight last week.  That has probably never happened before.  Old habits die hard, though.  We went out on Monday and I had a recipe lined up for last night, but wasn’t in the mood for cooking so we went out again (but we ate at a deli and had salad and sandwiches, so I don’t really feel bad about that).

Life Update

May 22, 2008 around lunchtime | Filed Under: Personal stuff, Work-y stuff

I never know what to write when I haven’t posted in a while.  Should I just ignore it and pretend nothing happened or make some lame excuse about being too busy.  Well, both those things are true of the past few months so I guess I’ll just move on.  I have been over on Twitter quite a bit and I found a plugin that posts my tweets on here, though I’m not sure I want to keep using it or not. It’s seems kind of redundant since I think most of the 5 people who read this blog also follow me on Twitter.

Anyway, I’m winding things down at work because I plan on taking the summer off.  I only have a few projects left and then nothing on my schedule until the fall.  I’ll still be technically working, just not on any new design projects.  I haven’t had a break in, well, ever since I started freelancing three years ago and I am so incredibly burnt out right now.  I definitely need some personal time.

I also feel like I’m in a bit of personal rut.  Working from home for three years is…well it changes you.  I’m home alone all day long.  Most weeks Brandon is the only other person I talk to face to face.  Except for maybe, like, the check out person at Target.  And that’s pretty depressing.  It’s not like I was Social Sally before I started doing this, but lately I’ve been feeling like I’ve regressed even more.  Especially living in a new town where I know exactly no one.

Just went though a cookbook and picked out two weeks worth of meals. Grocery shopping later. I never thought I’d get tired of eating out.
