Site updates

July 14, 2008 in the early afternoon | Filed Under: Meta

I wound up making my last entry private as I wouldn’t want anyone I work with to read it if they found my blog. Better safe than sorry and all that. If I blog about work or anything else that I don’t want random people on the internet to read, it will probably be private as well. The good thing is that all you have to do to read it is register for my blog. If you’re logged in you’ll be able to see it. There’s a private feed as well, but I’m still trying to figure that out. If you’re interested leave a comment or contact me and I’ll be sure to email you the feed URL when I figure it out.

Also, I found a plugin the remove my twitter updates from the feed for this site (I hope, haven’t tested it yet). My tweets are still displayed here, but if you’re already following me on Twitter, then you don’t really need them showing up in my feed as well, it’s redundant (and if you aren’t following me on Twitter my tweets aren’t really important enough to show up in the feed anyway).

And sorry to repost this, but since I made the last entry private, I wanted this to be seen. I’ve started that food blog I mentioned awhile back. I’ve been doing REALLY well with cooking lately. We hardly eat out anymore, because I’m actually excited about cooking dinner. It’s kind of awesome. I plan to document that and post lots of recipes since I’m making new things every day. My friend Mary is going to be a contributor as well. I’d love to have other authors if anyone is interested in sharing recipes and other food related things. Anyway, it’s called Back to the Cutting Board. Come and visit me over there! Honestly, I’ll probably be posting there a lot more than here. I’m not giving up on this blog, but I just don’t have much to write here lately. I’ll still post if something interesting happens or if I have news, but I’ll be posting a lot more regularly on the new blog.

Holidailies

December 1, 2007 mid-afternoon | Filed Under: Meta

So I decided to sign up for Holidailies this year. I’ve done it before in past years (when I used to blog A LOT more). I haven’t been blogging too regularly for the past few years, but I seem to have gotten my groove back in November. My goal was to publish a post a week and I more than doubled my goal. So I’m going to try to build on that victory and post every day this month. I seriously doubt that will happen (especially since we might be going out of town), but the Holidailies guidelines even says we can realistically strive for 20 posts, which I think I can definitely do.

So. Onward.

The dreaded first post…

February 5, 2007 terribly early in the morning | Filed Under: Meta

I hate the first post. What do you say? How do you start?

I guess I’ll start with why I started this blog, which basically boils down to fact that I needed a fresh start. I had four years of archives on my old blog and I just couldn’t stand it anymore. So I deleted them all and turned that into a photoblog (link on the sidebar) and decided to start fresh.

You know those girls on America’s Next Top Model who always freak out when Tyra wants to cut all their hair off? And they cry and cry like it’s the end of the world. Well, that’s how I felt when I was deleting all my archives. I literally stared at the delete button for 5 minutes before I could push it. I felt like I was cutting off a part of myself. But after I finally pressed that button, I realized how much they had been weighing me down. I needed a fresh start and here’s as good a place as any. Plus, I did make a backup (I’m not stupid), so if I want to read those entries again, I can. One day, I might even import some of the good ones here, but not right now.

What else do I want to get out of this? Well, I hope to write more. My father found my old blog awhile ago and that’s when I stopped feeling I could write freely there. Plus, I’m keeping this one from my boyfriend as well. So hopefully, I will feel like I can write more personal things here. But you may want to register (link on the sidebar) because I might make a few private entries only viewable to registered users.

You might be wondering how I came up with the name “Surprisingly Shallow”? It’s not most flattering name. But it’s actually one of my favorite lines from one my all-time favorite TV shows (if you know what it is, you are automatically my new best friend), so it makes sense to me. Plus, you have to admit everyone is at least a little bit shallow, I certainly am.
