Rants
I finally got my Scarlett fiestaware today. For the record, I like the color, but as with the rest it’s not what it looked like on Amazon. It’s a much more subdued red instead of the crazy bright color it was on the website. But that’s not what this post is about. This post is about the fact that the mail carrier hates me. I know this because I’m pretty sure he broke my feistaware on purpose. Yep, that’s right, I opened my package to a broken red plate. The really crappy thing is Amazon is saying they don’t have the color in stock anymore, so I can’t even get a replacement. Total suckage.
But here are the reasons why I think the postman hates me:

Home is where the heart is, Rants
I have a beef with you, Amazon. If you are going to sell products where color is a REALLY important factor in choosing which product you want, then you might want to try to use photographs that at least approximate the actual color.
Case in point. Fiestaware. I finally decided to bite the bullet and purchase some “real” dinnerware. We’ve been using hand-me-down Walmart plates for past 6 years, which do their job but aren’t very pretty or exciting. I like fiestaware because it has a reputation for being durable, but also it’s fun! and colorful! Yay!
It took me entirely too long to pick out the colors I wanted. I’m just obsessively crazy like that. I guess I could have just chosen one color and got a whole set of it, but that’s no fun, so I got multiple colors. 5 to be exact. Cobalt, Scarlet, Persimmon, Shamrock, and Sunflower.
With the exception of Sunflower (and possibly Scarlet since I haven’t received it yet) none of the colors look like they do on the site. The green is much darker, the orange is much lighter, but those I don’t really mind because they are at least close to what I thought they looked like. The issue is with Cobalt.

Rants
I am so tried of all the backlash these days. It’s everywhere! As soon as anything, anything, gets remotely popular there are people that automatically jump on the hate wagon. And why? There’s no reason for it, they just want to hate on something because that’s cool, just like 3 month before it was cool to love that same thing. What the hell? Has it always been like this? I guess it has, though I think the proliferation of the internet and blogs and 24/7 media inundation have only served to make the whole much bigger. Whereas before it was just you and your friends, now it’s you and everyone who reads your blog and everyone on the forum you post on and then the forums they post on.
Here’s what I don’t get about America. The whole point to living, the only thing that anyone cares about is The American Dream. And while this sentiment started as just wanting a better life, though the years it’s basically been boiled down to two things: Rich and Popular. EVERYONE wants to be rich and popular. Come on cynics, you know deep down you want that, too. Except that as soon as anyone, anyone, actually reaches this dream, as soon they cross that threshold, they are vilified. Before she made it she’s a “talented, stuggling actress” and after everyone’s labeling her an “ugly hack” or saying she only get where she is because of her big boobs. It’s such a double standard. We want to have it all, but we don’t want anyone else to.

Personal stuff, Rants
That’s what this trip is going to be.
It turns out that my boyfriend’s parents are basically broke. They aren’t going to be having “Christmas” for themselves until January. (Which is I guess when they will have some disposable income?) So they won’t even be giving each other Christmas presents when we’re up there.
WTF? Why are we even going? They guilted us into coming by sending us $200 of their own money (which they can’t afford). Then when we get up there, they are just going to be watching us open presents (that they bought for us even though they can’t afford it).
We tried to give back the $200 but they won’t take it, of course. I just feel really really bad about this whole situation. I don’t want to take their money. I don’t want presents from them if it means they can’t pay their bills. It’s totally unnecessary. The really sad thing is that (as per usual) they will be giving us a bunch of cheapo crappy gifts that we will never use and their money could (and should) be going to more important things like, I don’t know, being able to feed themselves!

Personal stuff, Rants, Relationship stuff
We’ve just been guilted into going up to visit my boyfriend’s family for Christmas. I really just wanted to stay here and have a low key Christmas, but now we’re stuck driving 20 hours and having to deal with his massive family.
My boyfriend agreed with me about not wanting to go and gave his mom the excuse that we didn’t have enough money to make the trip (which we kinda don’t). Well she called yesterday saying that she WORKED OVERTIME so that she could GIVE us the money to get up there. There’s no response to that. So now we have to go. Blurg.

Personal stuff, Rants
Well, fuck me. I was all excited about my vacation and getting to see a Decemberists concert and guess what? They just fucking canceled the entire tour and won’t be rescheduling it. So basically we are driving 9 hours up to Nowheresville, North Carolina to be able to watch some people churn butter at Old Salem.
I cannot believe how much this sucks. We’re taking this damn vacation, though. My boyfriend already got the week off and I’ve told ALL my clients that I will be gone. I’ve been looking forward to this time off for months now. I think we still have time to cancel our hotel (which I booked TWO months ago) so now we just need to figure out where we want to go. We’re not limited to North Carolina anymore, but it still needs to be within driving distance and I need to be able to book a hotel for next week.
Anyone have any good vacation ideas? I guess it’s time to consult Dr. Google.

Design-y stuff, Rants
People that use Internet Explorer on a Mac should be shot. In the stomach. So that they can die a slow painful death thinking about how absurd it is to use Internet Explorer on a Mac. Microsoft doesn’t even support that crap anymore.
Seriously, I have finally had to make a official form letter to send out to people still using IE Mac. I’m adding it to the one for AOL users. There are a ton of good browsers out there, why do people insist on using crap? :wall:
