Ben Folds: good concert or greatest concert?

March 10, 2008 mid-afternoon | Filed Under: Stuff I'm obsessed with, The outside world

Our trip up to Savannah for the Ben Folds concert was this past weekend and it was fantastic. Seriously, it’s the best concert I’ve ever been to. Brandon agreed with me except he had to put it at number two behind Pink Floyd which I can’t really blame him for.

It also helped that I was just really happy that we actually made it to the concert. I was stressed out the whole way up there. Brandon was supposed to leave early from work, but wound up being late. It was pouring rain the entire way so everyone was going slower than normal, plus we kept running into traffic at random places on the interstate. Both of us were starving from not eating anything all day so we had to make a detour and stuff greasy food in our mouths as fast as possible (which is always great for the digestive system). Then we wound up running out of gas about 5 miles from Savannah (less than an hour before the concert) so we had to make another detour to get gas. But our hotel wound up being closer to downtown than I thought (we couldn’t afford $200 a night to stay in one of the downtown hotels, so La Quinta it was), so we checked in, threw our crap in the room, rushed back to the car and rushed downtown where, thankfully, there was a (free!) parking garage a block away from the theater, otherwise finding parking would have been a bitch.

We got the concert with about 30 minutes to spare, so I could finally relax after that. We were in the third row, so the seats were great (We were on the right side, I would have preferred the center–Ben’s piano was closer to the left side of the stage–but I could still see him really well).

What I did on my Fall Vacation

November 15, 2007 in the early morning | Filed Under: Personal stuff, The outside world

Well, I’m back from vacation and wow do I really not want to be here. I want to be back in my hotel room taking naps in the afternoon and watching the History channel (Seriously, I know everything I ever wanted to know about the Titanic and Christopher Columbus). Yes, I could do that stuff at home, but then I’d feel guilty about it. On vacation there is no guilt.

Anyway, North Carolina was stunning. We literally got there The Week The Leaves Changed. If you don’t believe me check out my photoblog where I’m posting some of the 500 pictures I took. It would have been nice to be able to go to the concert like we wanted, but we still had a good time.

Old Salem Day 1 was Old Salem (click picture to see it up close). It’s the historical part of town and you can look around in the houses that have all the period furniture/decorations/tools, etc. Plus people in the clothes telling you about each place and the people that lived there. In addition that was the Museum of Decorative Arts (I could only think of my History of Decorative Arts teacher and how she would have gone batshit there) and the Museum of Antique Toys. That was a big day. My boyfriend really only liked the toy museum and I think he was fairly bored for the rest, but he was a trooper and didn’t complain.

More concerts

October 31, 2007 in the early morning | Filed Under: Stuff I'm obsessed with, The outside world

You would not believe how many posts I have in draft mode in here. I don’t really know what the deal is. I start a post and halfway through I decide I should like an ass and I never finish the post. Blah. I need to just get over it.

I actually wanted to sign up for NaBloPoMo to challenge myself to actually write in this thing again, but I’m going to be gone for the first week of the month, so I’d automatically lose. Although, I know the point isn’t really winning or losing, but still. Plus, going from writing nothing to something every single day would be a pretty big leap, one that I doubt I could make no matter how committed I was. Here’s my goal for November: 1 post a week. That’s a good start.

One of last times I posted all those months ago, I talked about the Mayer/Folds concert and I mentioned I had gotten tickets for Maroon 5. Well, that concert was a week ago and it was pretty awesome.

Of cats and concerts

August 9, 2007 just before lunchtime | Filed Under: Pet stuff, Stuff I'm obsessed with, The outside world

So my new kitty as cute as he is…he’s kind of terror. My boyfriend and I went out of town yesterday and stayed the night. We weren’t even gone a total of 24 hours, but we got back this morning and the cat had gotten a hold of a roll of toilet paper and shredded the entire thing. All over the living room. Then when that was taken care of, he jumped up on the kitchen counter and found the roll of paper towels and proceeded to shred that as well. It looked like it had snowed in our apartment while we were gone. GRR. But when he’s not shredding paper or scratching my wood furniture, he becomes the cutest, most cuddly, most nuzzling-your-face cat ever. How can you be mad at that!

Anyway, so the reason we went out of town was for a [tag]concert[/tag] in [tag]Tampa[/tag]. It was [tag]John Mayer[/tag] with [tag]Ben Folds[/tag]. Pretty much my definition of Most Awesome Concert Ever as they are both my favorites. I didn’t get tickets until they had already been on sale for a month, so we didn’t have the best seats (though they weren’t nosebleed either). In fact I wasn’t even going to get tickets when I thought it was just John Mayer, but when I saw Ben was going to be there, too, I knew I had to get the tickets no matter what.

Margaritaville is hell

February 9, 2007 in the late afternoon | Filed Under: Personal stuff, Relationship stuff, The outside world

I’m not a very outgoing person. And by outgoing I mean, I don’t like to go…out. I don’t have agoraphobia or anything that serious, but I have been feeling lately that my non-outgoingness has been getting a bit worse since I started working from home. It doesn’t help that my boyfriend works 68 hours a week and has our car with him most of the time, so even if I wanted to go out, I really couldn’t.

For the most part I don’t mind, though. It’s not like I never go out. We usually go see a movie every few weeks and we go out to eat once or twice a week (used to be more, but we’re trying to cut back). Plus I have to go grocery shopping and get my Target fix regularly. And there’s the other random errands: bank, post office, bookstore, etc. I used to go walking on some nearby trails, but haven’t been able to go since daylight savings ended. I’ll probably pick that back up in the spring. But other than the movies I don’t usually go out to do anything “fun”. Sometime I wish I did, but then I try to think what would be fun and I can never think of anything. I don’t like parties or clubs, I don’t even really like alcohol that much (which seems to be whole point of going to parties or clubs). That kind of stuff has never been my thing and it’s not my boyfriend’s thing either. I guess we are just natural stay-at-home-ers. And like I mentioned above, he works 68 hours a week and being a freelancer, I’m pretty much “on-call” 24/7, so neither of us has a lot of “free time”.
